HOT SUMMER IN BULGARIA
The first challenge is waiting for you as soon as you land on the Varna airport. Drive just 15 km. to the Varna-Sofia highway and stop right to see the Bulgarian natural phenomena - Pobiti stones. This is a unique creation of nature: a forest of huge stone slabs and blocks in strange forms among the desert sands. They are 50 million years old! Exist many legends about their origin, even scientists are not clear about it - erosion, vulcanic activity or something else.
The view will certainly charge you with enthusiasm for the surprises to come. Take the car again and after less than an hour you will come to the other historical place. Against you is the cult Reserve Madara. In the central zone around a huge cave on the rock is carved relief in the eighth century: warrior on a horse, a symbol of the strength of the Proto-Bulgarian state. This place is very mystical, there are many chapels and caves. It`s scientifically proven that this is one of the most powerful energy centers on earth. If you climb the stairs above the Madara Horseman, against you will reveal the most incredible view, do not miss.Once you've loaded with enough energy it comes time for a little rest.After less than 30 minutes you`ll arrive in the village of Osmar (awarded the gold medal for a unique European settlement). Osmar is a lovely Bulgarian village, hid ancient history. You can stay there and enjoy its nature.You need at least one day to visit the rock monasteries above the village and to do picnic next to the ancient fountains. There is a specially marked pathways in the forest, where you can collect various herbs. Osmar is one of the centers for the production of special-Pelin drink: wine mixed with herbs by old secret recipe. Necessarily taste the drink! You could also visit about 150 years old church with healing icons in the village. Do not leave before to ride a cart pulled by donkeys.
If you have already rested, it's time to move on.
After 2 hours you come to the quiet town of Tryavna. Here you can see houses with Renaissance architecture and various wood carving manufactories.You can visit the Museum of wood carving and icon painting. The city offers various options for accommodation, and a local typical Bulgarian cuisine will leave you with sweet memories.
From Tryavna to Veliko Turnovo will take not more than two hours drive. Veliko Tarnovo is a typical mid-size Bulgarian town, but the purpose of your visit is the Old Town which is the ancient capital of Bulgaria. Will incumbent colorful picture: cobblestone streets, many different architecture styles and of course overlooking the ancient fortress Tsarevets. Stay here and enjoy the atmosphere of seething life of the neighborhood. Stroll along the neat streets: Gurko, Samovodska bazaar where artists live weave rugs, jewelry made of silver and wood. Be sure to ask for sugar-workshop there will charm you with made coffee, white and sweets made from completely natural products. The sweets will be a great gift for your family. Other interesting places are romantic Aseneva neighborhood and Bishop's bridge.
Read the past of the city, visiting hill-fortress Tsarevets where they lived Bulgarian kings. You must attend one of the biggest Bulgarian performances: "Sound and Light", which recreates historical moments using the original decor, namely the castle itself. Unique!
